National Service Scheme (NSS)

The College has three NSS units functioning under three effective programme officers. Besides the regular activities, NSS conducts special camps every year. The regular activities consists of cleaning the College Campus, the temple premises of the adopted villages, planting saplings in both the College premises and adopted villages, conducting competitions, elocution, awareness programmes on occasions like Gandhi Jayanthi, International AIDS day, Breast Milk Week, Osteoporosis Day, Women'sDay, Cancer Awareness Day, Literacy Day and NSS Days etc. A detailed account of NSS activities is given below:

  1. NSS volunteers rendered valuable service during the time of admission for the academic year 2009-2010 disciplining the students and guiding the parents and made the admission work much easier.

  2. A lecture on "Future Challenges" was delivered by Prof . Robert Arokiasamy , of Princeton University , America under the auspices of NSS on 13.07.2009 . This brought out awareness among the students regarding the challenges they have to face in their professional life.

  3. Lectures and competitions were held on 06.08.2009 bringing out the importance of Mother Feeding in connection with the "Breast Milk Week Celebration" .Future mothers of the college were very much benefitted from the valuable lectures of the Doctors.

  4. On Gandhi Jayanthi Day ,the NSS volunteers went around the town in 44 small groups bringing awareness among the people of Kumbakonam on the importance of nutritious food and "Swine Flu" . They also distributed pamphlets regarding above these issues.

  5. On the occasion 'World Vision Day' NSS volunteers along with Vasan Eye Hospital went on a rally bringing out the importance of eye donation .The Chairman of the town appreciated the discipline with which the students conducted the rally and the striking slogans which they carried with them.

  6. On 09.10.2009 a procession was organized by the NSS volunteers on the importance by Nutricious Food, Protection of Teeth & Eyes Coordinated by a Doctors' group.

  7. An entertaining and enlightening session on 'Right to Information Act' was organized by NSS . It was conducted by the senior most lawyer of the town Mr.Geethalayan along with his group of lawyers.

  8. The special camp of NSS was conducted from 27.02.2010 to 05.03.2010 at the three adopted villages. The inauguration of the campus was held at Uppiliappan Koil . A survey was taken by the NSS volunteers which became very useful for administering welfare measures to the rural folk by the panchayats concerned.

  9. During for camp period the students involved themselves in various activities like cleaning the temple premises, village panchayats etc. The tremendous efforts taken by the volunteers at the time of Uppliappan Koil, Kumbabishekam was very much appreciated temple authorities and the town folk.

  10. Besides rendering social service to the people they participated in Yoga training and attended Homeopathy classes ,Sessions on "Environmental Issues' BPO, Fabric painting , embroidery Ornament and Jewel making and Job Oriented Computer courses were also given to the students . For these programmes , professors from the college acted as resource persons.

  11. The NSS volunteers and the Programme Officers made the academic year very useful both to the society and to the NSS volunteers by their continuous supports.
