Canteen

A Canteen facility is provided to staff members and students of both Shift I and Shift II. Canteen is situated in a separate block. There is a Canteen within the college premises which is run by a private person. The P.W.D. allots it by auction, every year. It is well maintained in hygienic manner and monitored by the Canteen Committee once in a week.

The timings of canteen is from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm which benefits both first and second shift students. Meals, tea, coffee, cool drinks and snacks are served at subsidized rate and cost of each item is displayed at the entrance of the canteen.

CCTV




Closed Circuit Television video (CCTV) Camera has been set up inside the college campus to monitor the students and to protect the individuals, including Students, Faculty and Staff members


Computer Lab

In the Department of Computer Science separate Lab Facilities available for UG and PG students. There are 38 PCs in the UG Lab and 31 PCs in the PG Lab. Other Facilities like LCD Projector, Digital Visualizer, 2 HDTV’s and Mobile speech Amplifier are provided. PCs are networked through LAN. Two Systems with Broadband internet Connection are made available to the students and staff members.
In microprocessor laboratory, 25 Microprocessor kits are available. The Computers and other sensitive Equipments are provided with UPS so that the Power failure will not cause any damage. It gives an opportunity for excellent hands on experience on the updated Pentium machines with all latest software.

Day Care Centre

The Day Care Centre was established in the academic year (2008 - 2009) under the UGC Merged Schemes for the children of both students and staff with the support of two senior staff members and one babysitter. A meagre amount is collected from the beneficiaries to meet out the expenses.
A Day Care Centre is accommodated in a spacious room with all the basic amenities like refrigerator, bureau, Cot, Mixer, Stove, Cradle, Toys, Mats, Wet Grinder and many attractive toys for the children to play like Swings, See-saw and Toy Car etc. The Windows of the room are fitted with Mosquito net, Separate Lavatory is provided to the Day Care Centre. Chart bearing the letters of the alphabets, fruits and vegetables, daily habits are displayed on the walls on the crèche.

Gymnasium

A Gymnasium with sophisticated equipments and instruments to enhance the fitness of students involved in sports. A gymnasium and indoor auditorium provide opportunities to the students to develop their physical skills. The college also provides sufficient facilities for students to participate in sports and games. A Mini - gym facility with 9 stations was added in 2003 with the help of which, lifting and Power lifting is offered to the students.

Health Centre

A Health Centre with all basic requirements for Women students has been established in the College.

  • Every Department has a First Aid box.
  • Health checkups are done for all UG and PG students by a Government Doctor.
  • Blood Groups are identified for all students through YRC and NSS.

Hostel

Government College for women (Autonomous), Kumbakonam, provides affordable hostel facilities, inclusive of food and accommodation, for the poor and deserving students of the college hailing from near by villages. All care and steps have been taken to ensure that the students are comfortable and are able to concentrate on their studies. Built on 14203.20 `sq. ft area, the hostel can accommodate 238 students. The hostel was built from the fund sanctioned by the state Government. The State Government had sanctioned Rs. 6.50 lakhs in the year 1970 - 1971.In hostel 36 rooms are available in ground floor and first floor.
One senior staff member is appointed as deputy warden and other two staff members as residential tutors to take care of students. There is a separate hostel for students belonging to Backward class, Most backward class, Scheduled caste maintained by Government.

NPTEL Multimedia Portal

Creation of a separate portal for NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) resources in the Local Area Network. This is the first initiative taken up in a Govt. Arts and Science College in India. Integration of electronic library comprising of 10,000 books on Arts, Science and Humanities with the NPTEL Portal. UGC – INFLIBNET enabled resources providing access to journals and books from Springer, Institute of Physics, American Institute of Physics, American Physical Society, Cambridge University Press etc.,
The College in house repository is being enhanced recently with the launching of NPTEL Multimedia portal with around 250 courses on Arts, Science and Humanities.

Language Laboratory

Smart class room facility, Wi-Fi facility, English Language Lab with 20 computers connected to a server with language software to improve the communication skills of the students are open to all students. The faculty participates in various academic programmes like Orientation / Refresher courses, Seminars, conferences, development programmes to update and enrich their knowledge.

Legal Counselling Centre

A legal counselling centre has been functioning in the college enabling the women in this semi urban area to represent their civil and social problems and get them redressed. Prominent lawyers in the town assemble in the centre on every Saturday to listen to the grievances of the ladies and suggest a possible remedy to them. This has become a boon to the underprivileged women in this semi urban area.

Library

The Central Library of the College is located on the first floor and it has a total number of 42,218 books, 28 journals, 19 Periodicals and 7 dailies. It also has access to 97,000 e-books through NLIST and 10,000 through College Intranet, 6,000 e-journals and digital data base.
It provides internet access to students with a Local Area Network (LAN) of 8 computers. The Library is equipped with Copier, Inverter and UPS facilities. Apart from the General Library, each department is having its own library which has sufficient number of books for study, reference and circulation.

Play Ground



The College has a playground for various track and field events with the facilities for playing Volley ball, Hockey, Basket ball and Ball-badminton, Table Tennis court and a well equipped GYM is also available.



Public Address System




A Public Address System is used to pass on information to staff and students at the time of emergency in the College.


Seminar Hall


A Separate Well furnished, air Conditioned Wi–Fi enabled seminar hall of area 1526 Sq.Ft with Electronic Podium, White board, LCD Projector, Interactive e-board Devices, Public Address System and other sufficient amenities is available. Seminar hall is equipped with audio visual facility and a portable generator.

Solar Power Plant

As per Tamil Nadu Solar Energy Policy 2012, 6% of the captive power is mandatory from solar energy for educational institutions. With a view to reduce the electricity power consumption, two solar power plants were installed with the financial support (Rs. 6,00,000) from UGC autonomy grant, after obtaining necessary permission from UGC SERO, Hyderabad. This is the First Government College in Tamil Nadu to install solar power plant. This provides uninterrupted power supply to the Principal’s room, administrative office and the controller of examination office. Six 100Ah HBL batteries attached with 4KW inverter provide backup power to the Office and Principal’s room and two 100 ah HBL batteries attached with 1KW inverter energize the Controller office.

UGC Network Resource Centre

A network has been established in the library through the patronage of UGC. It consists of five personal computers connected through Local Area Network (LAN). This helps the students to get an access to internet. This centre has become a boon, particularly to Post-Graduate students of Arts and Sciences in pursuit of their career. In addition, PCs in all department and office have an access to Broadband facility and they are networked suitably.

UV Treanted Water Plant



An ultraviolet treated water plant costing Rs.1,85,000 has been installed in the premises through the funds mobilized from UGC under "Basic Scientific Research". It helps the students to get an access to Protected and Pathogenized water.
